Abstract

The foundations, principles and dimensions of Market-Based Management® (MBM), a management system that allows organizations to be successful by applying the principles that enable free societies to become prosperous, is analyzed and reviewed. Pioneered and trademarked by Charles G. Koch, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Koch Industries, MBM seeks to adapt the principles of a free society and market economy to improve management practice in organizations.

Harlan D. Whatley is currently a lecturer in the English Department and the Department of Business Administration at Raffles Design Institute.Mr. Whatley graduated from the College of Charleston with a BA in English. He received his MFA in Integrated Media Arts from Hunter College of the City University of New York. Currently, he is completing his DBA ifrom the Swiss Management Cener in Zurich, Switzerland.Teaching experience:2011 to present Raffles Design Institute (China)2010 Huanghe S&T College (China)2007 Manhattanville College (USA)2004-2006 Hunter College/CUNY (USA)Work experience:Mr. Whatley worked in financial services in New York City from 1990 to 2008 as a sales and business development manager with firms such as Thomson Financial, FTSE Americas and the Economist Intelligence Unit.In 2012, he was invited to participate in the 2012 iIELT conference at Shantou University, at which he delivered a paper on The Effective Use of Motion Pictures in the ESL Classroom. In July of 2012, this article was published in the Researchers World: Art, Science and Business.He is slated to deliver a paper on Chinese internet companies at the International Conference on Information, Business and Education Technology (ICIBET) in Beijing in March of 2013.
